Caring with Confidence in partnership with My Guide

Do you have a friend or family member who is blind or partially sighted? Would you like to have a better understanding of their eye condition and the techniques to guide them effectively?

We are working with Guide Dogs to provide a comprehensive session to give you a greater understanding of your friend or family member's eye condition, how best to support them and to support you as a family carer. The day will give you the opportunity to discuss your caring role, including managing stress, effective communication and resources to support you as a family carer. It will give you a basic introduction to visual awareness, sighted guidance techniques and will also give you the chance to take part in a blindfold walk.

It will take place on Saturday 18th March 2017 at Kesgrave Community Centre, Twelve Acre Approach, Kesgrave, IP5 1JF between 10am - 3pm.

Places must be booked in advance. To book and for more information, please call 01473 835446 or email cwc@suffolkfamilycarers.org.

News from the Caring with Confidence team

Within the Caring with Confidence Team we are currently planning a new schedule of information and education sessions for family carers. The new schedule, from April onwards, will include our Caring with Confidence Programme which many of you may be familiar with and hopefully may have already enjoyed attending. For those of you who don’t know, Caring with Confidence (CWC) is a three week information and support programme open to any family carer who lives in Suffolk and cares for an adult. It gives you information on topics such as managing stress, regaining balance in your caring role, effective communication and carers rights and entitlements. It is also a great way to meet other family carers in a similar situation and to learn from each other. Many family carers who have attended the CWC programme still continue to meet socially. We also offer CWC as a one day session called ‘Feeling Stronger to Care’ which includes lunch. In our new programme we will be able to offer more of these programmes, so please do watch this space. Our new training schedule will be available soon and can be found on our website. For more information and to register your interest, please call us on 01473 835446 and we will send you information.

In the last edition of Carers Connected we told you that as of the 31st March 2017 we will no longer be able to offer the Caring For Dementia with Confidence Programme. This, like CWC, was an information programme designed especially for those who care for someone who is living with Dementia or memory loss.

We have received excellent feedback from those who have attended this programme but unfortunately, due to a change in funding we can no longer continue to offer this. However, if you do care for someone with Dementia, you can still come along to our generic CWC programme to gain lots of useful information.

Our bus is out and about
