Information Line 01473 835477

About us

We are a team of inspired, focused and committed people and we are passionate about making sure you are supported in all of the health environments you encounter whether these be the doctors surgery or in hospital.

What we offer

West Suffolk GP support

We provide a GP worker in every doctors surgery in west Suffolk who can offer you one to one advice and support in your caring role as well as facilities to register you with our service.

As a result of our work, some surgeries now offer support groups for you to attend and meet others who care.

Our GP workers also give advice and information to the staff in the surgery to help them become more aware of your role and how they can help you.

Respite on prescription

(Only available in the west of the county)

This enables you to receive a prescription from your GP if you need to go in to hospital for treatment and means that respite can be arranged to look after the person you care for while you are away.

Hospital support

If you identify yourself as a family carer when you enter a ward, all hospitals in Suffolk will be able to give you a pack explaining about the on-site family carer support workers who can help you. They can also provide you with a badge and leaflets to help with discharge arrangements.

Ipswich hospital

We have 2 family carer support workers based at Ipswich hospital who are available to provide one to one support, advice and information to help you cope in your caring role whilst using Ipswich Hospital services.

They are also able to provide you with a follow up service after using the services at Ipswich Hospital.

The carers cabin is also based at the hospital and is open to you every afternoon during the week, offering free tea and coffee and a chat if you need it.

James Paget hospital

We have 1 Family Carer Information and Support Worker based at the James Paget University Hospital on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. They are able to provide you with one to one support, advice and information to help you cope in your caring role whilst using James Paget University Hospital services.

West Suffolk hospital

We have 1 Family Carer Information and support worker based at West Suffolk Hospital .They are able to provide you with one to one support, advice and information to help you cope with your caring role whilst using West Suffolk Hospital services.

Getting a break

Respite is available to you through the Neurological Care Breaks Scheme if you care for someone with a neurological condition including Multiple Schlerosis, Parkinsons, Motor Neurone Disease, Stroke and Epilepsy.

To access this scheme you must be registered with a GP surgery in Suffolk (excluding Waveney).
